No injuries were reported in the incident, but train service was suspended until early Saturday, the News-Times said.
The accident happened at about 11:25 p.m. Friday at the crossing at Topstone Road in Redding, the News-Times said.
Trains were running on a regular schedule on Saturday, Metro-North said.

Metro-North is investigating the accident, which occurred between the Branchville and West Redding stations.
The was the second time in the past month that a car was hit by a Metro-North train at the Topstone Road crossing. On Dec. 5, a driver suffered minor injuries when his car was hit at the crossing at 9:10 p.m., Metro-North said.
No one onboard the train at the time of the accident was hurt.
